Insurance Company Research

• The principle directory for insurance company research is Best's Insurance Reports  (published by A.M. Best and available in the library). Through Best's Ratings Online there is free access to A.M. Best's database of insurance companies and ratings.
  
  
• Locating Filings: Many insurance companies are public and therefore file with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). A search of the SEC's EDGAR database provides filings dating back to 1994. In addition to EDGAR, insurance companies generally file with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners which in turn sells its information to the public.
